Harrington isn’t what you’d call a major city, even in Delaware. With a population of just three and a half thousand, it doesn’t even make the top ten in our state. But it still has some action.
Last week, undercover officers used cell phones to set up meetings where they posed as drug dealers. In one incident, they texted Christopher Furroughs and got him for possession when he showed up at Arby’s on US 13. He got added charges for fighting the officers.
The second arrest (unrelated) came when Heather Manning agreed to meet officers to sell them oxycodone pills. Arrangements for the buy were made by cell phone and Ms. Manning was charged with possession with intent to deliver.
It’s interesting to see some proactive enforcement with police using the same tools that criminals use to connect and make deals. The next iteration may be twitter or other online connections. The dealers adopt new technologies and the drugs they sell also follow fashion trends. In our state, illegal sales of prescription pain medications are trending upward.
Large city or smaller town, the police are out there. With the hard news out of Wilmington, it’s nice to see the cops trying their best to keep the real violence out of Harrington. Even if the arrests don’t make headlines, they are appreciated by residents who look north to Dover and Wilmington and worry.
